Group lessons, held at Newlands Neighbourhood House, 20 Murray Rd, Coburg
This a fun and social way to learn! Group levels are described below as a general guide, but if you’re not sure where you fit or can’t attend at the time specified, get in touch, and we’ll work out what’s best for you.
There are 5 fortnightly lessons each term, generally following the school term dates. We learn 2 – 3 songs a term, in a way that suits the level and interests of the group.
Casual or blocks of private lessons, held in Coburg
Private lessons are a great option to get started as an absolute beginner, work on specific songs or techniques, or get extra help with group lesson songs if needed. You’re welcome to come along with a friend and split the cost!
Book a casual spot for a one-off lesson, or a block of 3 fortnightly lessons. One missed lesson can be rescheduled within the term (or more if you are sick).
Lessons can be 60, 45 or 30 minutes, depending on your preference and level of experience. 60 minutes can be great for more experienced guitarists, whereas 45 minutes is generally long enough for beginners. 30 mins is ideal for a quick check of which group would be best for you.

| ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS @ Newlands: for people who have no or just a little experience with guitar. | For Term 4, I’m offering this group as part of the Newlands Neighbourhood House Program. We’ll start with the basics, and work up to playing simple but satisfying songs! | Tuesdays 6.30 – 7.30pm weekly | Starts Tues 6th Oct Book through Newlands |
| PLAY N SING @ Newlands: open to all stringed instrument players who would like a more relaxed, low cost, sing along style session, along with some gentle music appreciation | This group will also be offered through Newlands in Term 4. You can expect less teaching, easy playing options for all, and plenty of encouragement to sing along with the group, try a harmony or even a spot of solo singing! | Tuesdays 7.30 – 8.30pm fortnightly | Starts Tues 13 Oct Book through Newlands |
| LEVEL 2: for people who’ve been playing for approx 2 years+ and are confident with open chords, strumming, and simple riffs / melodies | We work on bar chords, varied strumming and fingerpicking patterns, and more complex riffs and instrumental solos | Wednesdays 11 – 12pm fortnightly (held in Brunswick) | Starts Wed 7 Oct BOOK HERE |
| TYPICAL GIRLS & JUST HOLLER: Phoebe Bridgers & Boygenius is for people who are confident with open chords, strumming, and simple riffs / melodies | For this project, our guitars will accompany Just Holler Choir singing the songs of Phoebe Bridgers and Boygenius. We’ll spend 6 weeks learning 4 great songs, culminating in a performance at Ceres in Week 6 | Wednesdays 7 – 8.30pm weekly | Starts Wed 7 Oct BOOK HERE |
| LEVEL 1 & 2: a mixed group for people who know some open chords and strumming patterns, and those who are more experienced and confident with these skills | We refine and consolidate chord changes and riffs, and as people are ready, move into more challenging variations | Thursday 6.30 – 7.30pm fortnightly | Starts Thurs 8 Oct BOOK HERE |
| SONGWRITING WORKSHOPS: for people with all levels of songwriting experience who would like to work through a guided songwriting process | Each workshop will have a specific theme to explore, and guided exercises to move through the songwriting process in a supportive and encouraging environment | 2 part workshop Wednesdays 7.00 – 9.00pm | Wed 18 & 25 Nov BOOK HERE |
Fees for Term 4 2026
Fees cover the cost of lessons, as well as access to song charts and practice videos. There are multiple fee options to allow everyone to participate, including payment plans and free group places for First Nations people and people doing it tough financially, no questions asked.
